CONFEX 2022 will showcase the region as an agricultural hub empowering the  small scale subsistence farmers and other relevant producers/services providers.

A platform to network and gain knowledge from other stakeholders with the focus to promote food production, preparation and packaging; share knowledge on the value of nutrition and implement initiatives; investigate and secure market access; capacitate the role players in the agriculture value chain; research, strengthen and implement initiatives in the Agribusiness.

 

FOCUS AREA

  • Agriculture:  Increase agricultural productivity, including diversification to high value horticultural crops for the market.  Meet the needs of the domestic market but also fully serves the export aspirations of the local agricultural smallholder farmers.
  • Economically empower subsistence farmers and reduce dependency of vegetable imports into the region.
  • Malnutrition:  Develop productive approaches to provide nutritional food to schools, hospitals and the vulnerable communities  by catalysing markets through support to the small holder farmers.
  • Women and Youth development impacting food security
  • Post harvesting technologies, market accessibility, financial services and capacity building
  • Policy deliberations

CONFEX PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Day 1:  Wednesday 10 August 2022   -  Conference and opening of exhibition

Day 2 & 3: Thursday /Friday - 11/12 August 2022 -  Official opening, Exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, competitions, information sessions, interactive sessions, entertainment

Day 4:  Saturday 13 August 2022 - Exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, competitions, information sessions, interactive sessions, entertainment, awards ceremony

 

Prior and post activities:

  • Information sessions to exhibitors to share information to maximize the opportunities
  • Ambassadors training - identify support staff to assist with the running of the expo by sharing knowledge.
  • Information sessions addressing the current need in the region building up to the CONFEX
  • Pre and post tours to agricultural related projects

 

WORKSHOPS

The uniqueness of this ConfEx is the hosting of workshops, demonstrations and information sessions.

EXPECTED TANGIBLE OUTCOMES

  • A successful event, which can culminate into an annual/ biannual event and to be circulated across the region.
  • Registration of Cooperative
  • Established E-commerce platform for farmers to trade.
  • List of all agricultural projects in the region with the aim to group projects to ensure sustainability.
  • Database
  • Comprehensive lists of all service providers and potential sponsors in the region. 
  • Empowered those in the agricultural sector.  Workshops, information sessions, demonstrations and discussions - expectations will be measured vs the outcomes.
